Miss Grand International 2020, the 8th edition, was held in Bangkok, Thailand, with events at Show DC Hall. Originally scheduled in Venezuela for October 2020, it was postponed due to COVID-19. Delegates arrived by 1 March 2021 for a 14-day quarantine; the pageant officially began on 15 March. Key events included the National Costume show (24 March), Preliminary Competition (25 March), and the Grand Final on 27 March 2021, hosted by Matthew Deane. Broadcasts were carried via YouTube and Facebook Live. Abena Appiah of the United States won, becoming the first black woman to claim the title. The event also drew global attention when Miss Grand Myanmar, Han Lay, delivered a plea for international help amid Myanmar’s political crisis.
