Miss Universe 1972, the 21st Miss Universe pageant, was held on 29 July 1972 at the Cerromar Beach Hotel in Dorado, Puerto Rico—the first edition staged outside the continental United States. At the conclusion, Miss Universe 1970 Marisol Malaret crowned Kerry Anne Wells of Australia as Miss Universe 1972, the first win for Australia. Sixty-one contestants competed. The event was hosted by Bob Barker, with commentary by Helen O'Connell. Miss Universe 1971 Georgina Rizk did not attend due to government restrictions amid security concerns; protests briefly disrupted the live broadcast before connections were restored.
