Miss Universe 1979, the 28th Miss Universe pageant, was held at the Perth Entertainment Centre in Perth, Australia, on 20 July 1979. Margaret Gardiner of South Africa crowned Maritza Sayalero of Venezuela, marking Venezuela’s first Miss Universe title. It was the first time the pageant took place in Australia.
