Miss USA 1990, the 39th Miss USA pageant, was held on March 2, 1990 at the Century II Convention Center in Wichita, Kansas, and broadcast by CBS and KWCH. Carole Gist of Michigan was crowned by outgoing Miss USA Gretchen Polhemus of Texas, becoming the first African American Miss USA and the first from Michigan. Dick Clark hosted with color commentary by Leeza Gibbons and Laura Harring. The telecast debuted on-screen display of individual judges’ scores and introduced a new “top six” Q&A round before the final three. It was the first of three consecutive years the pageant was staged in Wichita.
