Notes

ENFrom edition_translations
Miss World 1970, the 20th edition, was held on 20 November 1970 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom, and broadcast by the BBC. Jennifer Hosten of Grenada won, becoming the first black Miss World; the black South African entrant placed second. The event was disrupted by Women’s Liberation protesters who threw flour bombs, and a bomb exploded under a BBC van beforehand. The result sparked controversy and accusations of rigging, partly because Grenada’s Prime Minister Eric Gairy served as a judge; organiser Julia Morley briefly resigned before resuming.
