Miss World 1979, the 29th Miss World pageant, was held on 15 November 1979 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom. Gina Swainson of Bermuda won the title, crowned by Miss World 1978 Silvana Suarez; Carolyn Seaward (United Kingdom) was first runner-up and Debbie Campbell (Jamaica) second runner-up. Live TV coverage by the BBC was largely abandoned due to a trade-union dispute; pre-recorded segments were aired and the crowning was shown with mute pictures narrated by Ray Moore, with full commentary added later for overseas broadcasts. Lesotho debuted; Bolivia, Guatemala, Lebanon, Panama and Portugal returned; Curaçao, Dominica, Saint Vincent and Tunisia withdrew.
