Miss World 1989, the 39th edition of the Miss World pageant, took place on 22 November 1989 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong, with 78 contestants. It was the first time the event was staged outside London and the first participation by the USSR in a major pageant. Aneta Kręglicka of Poland won, becoming the first Eastern European to claim the title; she was crowned by Miss World 1988, Linda Pétursdóttir of Iceland.
