Miss World 1996, the 46th edition, was held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, India, on 23 November 1996. Irene Skliva of Greece was crowned by Jacqueline Aguilera of Venezuela. Eighty-eight contestants took part. Organized by ABCL led by Amitabh Bachchan, the event faced protests but went ahead with support from the local government. Hosts were Richard Steinmetz and Ruby Bhatia.
