Miss Costa Rica 2016, the 61st edition of the pageant, was held on 2016-08-19 at the Centro Costarricense de la Ciencia y la Cultura (Auditorio Nacional del Museo de los Niños) in La Merced, San José, and broadcast by Teletica. Brenda Castro, Miss Costa Rica 2015, crowned Carolina Rodríguez Durán as the winner, granting her the right to represent Costa Rica at Miss Universe 2016. The event carried the motto "Viva la Belleza" and featured a water (agua) theme to promote awareness of its responsible use.
