Miss France 1920 was the inaugural Miss France contest, then called “The most beautiful woman of France,” created by journalist Maurice de Waleffe with the daily Le Journal. Public voting was organized in cinemas via postcards, reducing 2,063 entrants to 49 and then to seven finalists. On 1920-05-10 in Paris, Agnès Souret of Espelette was elected with 114,994 of 234,757 votes and awarded 4,000 francs.
