Miss USA 1971 was the 20th Miss USA pageant, broadcast live on CBS and WTVJ and hosted by Bob Barker at the Jackie Gleason Auditorium in Miami Beach, Florida, on May 22, 1971. Michele McDonald of Pennsylvania won, crowned by outgoing titleholder Deborah Shelton of Virginia. McDonald was the first—and to date only—Pennsylvanian to win Miss USA and later placed as a semifinalist at Miss Universe 1971. This edition reduced the number of semifinalists from 15 to 12, a format that remained until 1984, when it was cut again to 10.
