Miss France 1935, the 11th edition of the Miss France pageant, took place on 18 May 1935 in Paris. Élisabeth Pitz (Miss Lorraine 1934), born in Sarrebruck in 1911, was initially crowned but withdrew after about two hours amid protests regarding her Saarland origin. The jury, chaired by painter Paul Chabas and meeting in the salons of the magazine Comœdia, then awarded the title to Gisèle Préville (Miss Paris), aged 16. Contemporary reports (L’Ouest-Éclair, 19 May 1935) noted a brief scuffle at the announcement but also that Pitz had opted for French nationality following the Saar status plebiscite of 13 January 1935.
